home again home again jiggedy jig
well i'm back in the bosom of my family in sunny oxfordshire (and dull charlbury, to be more specific). though of course by the time i got here most of them were in bed. and apparently some 19 year old girl is now sleeping in my room. hmmm...
cunningly managed to put myself in a state of despondency on the way down by reading ordinary men, a book about the policemen who went round massacring thousands of jews in poland during ww2. fascinating stuff, trying to understand why "ordinary people" would do such horrific things (most of the people they shot were women, children and the elderly. they were the "useless" ones. the healthy men were kept as labour), but pretty depressing as well in the time-honoured "aren't humans really horrible" kind of way.
mind you, animals eat their own babies so i guess we're still marginally up.
