Hmm, I've been pondering the possibilities of using a Livejournal as a roleplaying game platform.
Yes, it's going to be one of those kind of posts.
Anyway, I was just thinking of how we've tried playing games on other message boards in the past. Invariably with failure, but I think that was due to a lack of commitment in the players or the ref or both, rather than a necessary flaw in the method itself.
So, how would a game using a Livejournal work?
Well you'd have one journal that would be the main game. Each post would be the start of a fresh scene, with the ref setting up the new situation. Then the players and ref would play out that scene in the comments under that post. When the characters move on to a new scene, make a new post.
It would be cool as well if the players themselves created specific journals representing their characters. They could be used to spin off other scenes when the characters wander off on their own, and to flesh out other aspects of the characters with scenes that take place before (or after) the current timeline of the main game
I'm sure other people will have already done this of course, so maybe I should just try a bit of research to see if it can succeed before I actually tried enthusing myself and then (hardest part) enthusing any others into giving it a go.
It's probably all doomed to failure of course, I guess I'm just having one of my period nostalgia fits for some proper hardcore geekery.
